Assingment #5 for Overground. Kept with the technique I used for the last piece, with added highlights.
Also, I did try and make her chest smaller. The piece was drawn and inked very well, but the character isn't large chested to begin with and I felt the size of the breasts was distracting away form the rest of the piece. Original- [link] Inks- [link] Comments
Ah, breast reduction. When I pencil established characters, I try not to think of them as having set in stone breast or cup sizes, as that's too demeaning. Instead I think of them as an actress and that impression that best describes them, that personality, dictates the line and edge of the breasts. Always a funny subject when it crop ups, but I don't think it's something people need to obsess about in fiction or real life.
This is all totally off topic. Just the thoughts in my head. -- Illustrator open for Commissions TGI Tuesday. Member of *hiredeviantARTISTS I guess I need to get a premium membership so I can crit
I think you did a good job on this piece. Good placement of shadows and lighting as well as some blending. The colors you picked for the hard shadows have a good effect. Looks like you use the airbrush and possibly color burn and dodge? I noticed that around the legs and boots you went outside the lines in a few spots. If you are trying to create a shine on the boots do not be afraid to drop in a hard line of white. The key to shininess is contrast. Besides that you might want to experiment with rim lighting or bounce light to bring out the form more and maybe a highlight on the eye to bring out that spherical shape. Can't wait to see more |

I'll start by saying I think you did a great job, you get better with every picture you colour!
I'm really loving her face here, the soft shading with just a few sharp violety (don't know a better word) shadows works really well.
Digging her hair too, I always find blonde hard to colour, but here you've made it look effortless.
Her collar, I'm not liking so much. I think the soft linear shading makes it look more like rippled silk than fur, its pretty, but its not quite right. I would either leave the collar looking quite flat with just cast shadows on it to make it look like thick sheepskin. Or you could go to town and use lots of sharp, thin, curving strokes to give it a really furry texture.
The jacket looks great, I particularly like how you coloured her boobs, it looks very stylish.
The belt looks a little rushed to me, which is a shame, because it looks like you put a lot of effort into her face and jacket. I would make most of the shading on the belt a lot lighter, and leave the darkest tones for the left side, right near the buckle. You could spice up your colouring here by adding little highlights on the upward-facing edge of the buckle holes (its hard to explain, just grab a belt and examine how the holes catch the light) Paying attention to these little details will make your work look much more pro.
The thigh is confusing me a little. (sorry if I'm coming off over-negative, I do really love this picture!) The big shadow down the middle of her thigh makes it look strangely hollow. The big highlight on the left of the thigh doesn't make a lot of sense to me either, as the rest of the picture suggests that the light source is on the right. I do like your choice of fleshtones though, and you did a great job on her butt- I almost wanna poke it and see if its squish-able.
Great job with the bubbles, I think making them different sizes was a good idea, it adds variety to the image. Also her boots look very cool.
Sorry to be so nit-picky, you can tell me to shut up and go away if you want ^_^;
